Rain in Summer H. W. Longfellow

     How beautiful is the rain!
     After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
     In the narrow lane,
     How beautiful is the rain!

How it clatters along the roofs,
     Like the tramp of hoofs!
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!

     Across the window pane
     It pours and pours;
     And swift and wide,
     With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
     The rain, the welcome rain!

Paraphrase
On dusty hot day in summer the rain looks very beautiful. The broad and hot streets and narrow lanes all become charming in rain.
The fall of rain on the iron roofs gives the impression of the sound of heavy hoofs of horses. The water as it rushes out suddenly with great force through the pipes makes a roaring sound.
The rain looks beautiful. It drives away dust and heat. It is welcomed every where.
Rain pours across the window panes for a long time. Then it turns in a muddy tide and rushes through the streets. It looks as river is over flowing. The rain in summer is pleasing in all respects. I welcome the rain.
